PREVIEW: Warriors face Millard South Patriots

August 31, 2017

The Westside Varsity Football team will head to Buell Stadium Thursday night to battle with the Patriots of Millard South High School. Westside is coming off a deflating 45-41 loss to Creighton Prep, and the Patriots enter after a crushing 48-7 victory at the hands of their rival Millard West.

Friday night, the Warriors took the field for the first time in the 2017 season.  Senior Dylan Plautz threw for 375 yards on 28 completions.  While the Warriors threw the ball 48 times, they completed 25 first downs.  The passing game is something to watch this week on the offensive side of the ball for Westside.  In the midst of a sharp performance offensively, the defense conceded 386 yards on the ground.  The way the Patriots’ run game is defended will be a focal point this week.

While Westside gave up 386 yards to Creighton Prep, Millard South was not able to punch out a positive number of total rush yards cumulatively in 21 attempts. They were able to grind out 179 passing yards against the Wildcats, creating their only touchdown of the night.

Westside is 5-0 in its last five attempts at beating the Patriots.  The closest of those matchups ended up with a 21-13 final in the 2014, and the most recent being a 41-21 win in the 2016 season.  The Warriors will meet the Patriots in enemy territory on Thursday, August 30, 2017, at 7 p.m.
