Westside spirit squads joining the KC Chiefs

August 28, 2017

On Saturday, August 5, various members from both dance team and cheer traveled to Kansas City. They went to practice for their performance, which would take place the following weekend, during halftime of an NFL game at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chief Cheerleaders held a clinic so that dancers and cheerleaders from all over the area could learn a dance to perform during halftime of a Kansas City Chiefs football pre-season game.

Senior dance team member and participant Abby Tigani thinks that the atmosphere of the stadium was really exciting and it was a fun experience to dance with her team.

“We received a video of the dance from the cheerleaders, and then we had to learn the dance on our own time before we went to Kansas City to practice it,” Tigani said.

Sophomore cheerleader and clinic participant Allie Didier enjoyed how doing this clinic was a bonding experience with all of the girls and that she also got closer with her coach.

“Doing this with my team was really a great experience, and it was worth the hard work,” Didier said.

Even though this practice was tiring, Tigani said that all of the hard work was worth it in the end when they got to perform.

“The hardest part about the whole clinic was probably the 5 hours practice in Kansas City the weekend before the actual performance. During that practice, we were put in multiple formations and had to run the dance lots of times,” said Tigani.

Even though this practice was tiring, Didier said that all of the hard work was worth it in the end when they got to perform.

“It was really cool being on the field and seeing all the NFL football players. Dancing on an NFL field was definitely my favorite part because is was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Didier said.

Both Didier and Tigani think that overall the KC Chiefs Cheerleaders Clinic was a fun and exciting experience for themselves and their teams. They are looking forward to participate again next year.
