New Red Shield leaders looking forward to their debut

August 25, 2017

School sporting events at Westside would not be the same without the support from the student section. It is a Westside tradition for the student section to be led by a DECA sponsored club, the Red Shield. This year, the club leaders include seniors Adam Folsom, Dillon Hancock, Sam Mormino, Andrew Overgaard, Evan Thorell, Mack Tempero, and Tommy Simon.

The seniors are excited to start their job as the student section leaders, with their big debut at tonight’s first home football game.

“We’re more dedicated than last year,” Overgaard said. “We have around 25% freshman signed up, that’s more than ever in the history of Red Shield. We are ready to stay focused and positive, and make every game a great game.”

The Red Shield has the responsibility to positively lead the students for all sports throughout the year.

“It’s not just for the football games, it’s for all sports,” Thorell said. “We want to include everyone.”

On top of keeping the excitement high at each particular sporting event, the Red Shield encourages all to get pumped before the game.

“We have tailgates too,” Folsom said. “Come and get involved.”

The first tailgate will take place at 5 p.m. tonight before the first home game. All Westside students are welcome to come!
