RECAP: Westside DECA chapter at Nationals

May 3, 2017

Westside’s DECA chapter traveled 1500 miles this past week to compete against students from across the world at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC). DECA is a nationally recognized business program that prides itself on “preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to be college and career ready,” according to their website.

Students who placed in the top three in their specific category at the state competition earlier this year were invited to DECA ICDC, along with other students from from the United States, Canada, Korea, China and Spain in Anaheim, California. Westside business and marketing teachers Sarah Schau, Lane Lindberg, Brad Metzler and Katie Harmon took 52 Westside juniors and seniors, the most out of any other chapter in Nebraska, to compete in the conference.

Students competed in categories ranging from Sports and Entertainment, to Financial Literacy Promotion Plan. Senior Audrey McCann received honors for best role-play in her category of Fashion Merchandising. Many students in Westside’s chapter also earned recognition for a top 20% finish at DECA ICDC.
