ATSC closes curtain on historic season

March 28, 2017

The Amazing Technicolor Show Choir (ATSC) wrapped up their competition season at Heart of America in Atlanta, GA this past weekend. Being awarded First Runner Up and Best Costumes, ATSC surpassed other groups from Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Mississippi, Virginia and Florida.

Director of ATSC Doran Johnson touches on titles and awards ATSC has earned this season.

“This season, ATSC earned five Grand Championships along with awards for Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Band and Best Male Soloist,” Johnson said. “More importantly, they represented Westside with excellence and class on stage and off stage.”

Junior and winner of ‘Best Male Soloist’ Sam DeVries looks back on a successful competition season.

“Going into this season, we lost a lot of seniors that were really good; A lot of the show choir community thought we were not going to perform well at all. That was a big driving point for us,” Devries said. “We wanted to defy the odds.”

With this year’s competition show choir being one of three in history to win 5 Grand Championships, DeVries says that “History has its eye on ATSC.”

“As a group we became a family throughout the season,” DeVries said. “We defied the odds of what everyone expected, and that was pretty awesome.”
