Former hall supervisor and football coach Jake Pedersen dies

January 27, 2017

On Sunday, January 22, former Westside employee, Jake Pedersen, passed away due to reasons that are currently unreleased. From 2006-2015, Pedersen was a hall supervisor and football coach. He touched the lives of many and impacted our students in school and on the football field. Junior Patrick Duggan said that Pedersen was a very fun-loving and easygoing coach.

“Pedersen was my freshman offensive line coach as well as my summer conditioning coach,” Duggan said. “He was one of the main reasons that transitioning into high school was very easy for me.”

Pedersen was also senior Bennett Hellman’s freshman football coach. Hellman said he will always remember his coach’s persevering optimism and constant smile.

“[Pedersen] taught me that there is so much more to sports than just winning,” said Hellman. “The camaraderie with your brothers and work ethic you gain is the biggest thing sports can give you. Not simply just winning games.”
