Xbox steps up their game with all new features

October 28, 2016

Every month, Microsoft offers four free games for Xbox live gold members to download. Two of these games are exclusively for Xbox One players, and the other two are backwards compatible Xbox 360 games. That’s four free games for Xbox One players, and two for Xbox 360 players.

For Xbox 360, the two games available are “MX vs. ATV Reflex” (Normal price $19.99), and “I Am Alive” (Normal price $29.99). While these two games aren’t the best Xbox has to offer, they aren’t as bad as other Games With Gold cop outs like “Pool Nation FX” and “D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die.”

“MX vs. ATV Reflex” is a game where you play as a Motorcycle or an ATV rider; pretty self explanatory. But aside from that, you can also use rally cars, trucks and things like that to diversify the gameplay. While this game may not be for all players, it caters to the person who likes fast-paced racing games.

“I Am Alive” is a survival game with similar aspects to games like “The Last of Us” and “Dead Rising,” but on a bit of a smaller scale. While the game has a pretty deep story, the focus is on the atmosphere of the world, and the interactions with other characters faced with the brutal reality of a post-apocalyptic city. The game has climbing mechanics similar to the “Assassin’s Creed” games, but on a timer, as there is a stamina meter that requires the player to pace themselves.

“MX vs. ATV Reflex” will be available from Oct 1 to Oct 15, and “I Am Alive” will be available from Oct 15 to the Oct 31.

For the Xbox One, the two games exclusively available are “Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings,” and “The Escapists.” “Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings” which is usually priced at $19.99 will be available from Oct 1 to Oct 31. “The Escapists” is regularly $19.99 and will be available from Oct 16 to Nov 15.

“Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings” is a cartoony top down baseball game. In the game, you can create teams and play them in two main modes: Season Mode, and Exhibition. While the game lacks online multiplayer, it has full leaderboards. While it looks like a kids game, it is pretty difficult, with scalable difficulty. Overall, it’s a fun cartoon style baseball game.

“The Escapists” is an eight-bit top down game, where you play as a prisoner. The point of the game is to level up your character, craft items and prepare to reach the final goal, which is to escape the prison. The game has a big focus on customization. You can choose your character skin, your name and those of the other prisoners and prison guards.

While not the best Microsoft has to offer, the four games available for free for players with Xbox live gold are overall pretty decent and should offer hours of enjoyment.
