Marketing 2 Students are ‘Taking Care of Business’

October 17, 2016

Most high schoolers know the struggle of trying to find a job. With many employers requiring internships and prior work experience, it seems that jobs are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.

The Marketing 2 class recently started a project that helps combat this obstacle.  They are working with businesses to get real work experience.  Some of the activities students do include marketing, social media, promotion, logistics and distribution for different companies. Students are working with Pets R Us, Dynamic Fitness, Planet Sub, Dunkin Donuts and Score Vision.

Senior Audrey McCann, a Marketing 2 student, believes that this experience is a unique opportunity because their work is being put to use.

“I think this is a good chance to see where you fit in and what you really want to do,” McCann said. “It’s cool to be able to do that, especially right before college.”

Marketing 2 Instructor Sarah Schau thinks that the real business exposure is an extraordinary opportunity for the students to have.

“The coolest part about it is that it’s for real,” Schau said. “All these businesses are really going to use what our kids come up with.”

Although this experience looks good on an application or a resume, Schau hopes that’s not the students’ main take away.

“I hope they take away the authentic learning experience and that they’re proud of themselves,” Schau said.
