Girls golf finishes season strong with placing in the district tournament

October 13, 2016

The girls golf team has always been one to impress at Westside High School. Alexis Rose, junior at Westside and captain of the girls golf team, competed in the State girls golf tournament on Oct. 10 and 11.

“I think that this season could have gone better because the whole team was close to qualifying for state but we did not and we have in the past years,” Rose said.

Rose was the only girl on the team this year that made it to state, placing 14th in the overall in the tournament competing against about 70 other girls from different high schools in Nebraska. Barry Glanzer, coach of the girls golf team, has high expectations for next years’ team.

“We had a good season and a lot of the girls on the team were very young, we will have a lot of short game work and continue doings camps and competing in tournaments in the off-season,” Glanzer said. “We will do summer camps and clinics, while also playing in summer events.”

The team as a whole placed 4th in districts this year, while only the top three teams were eligible to compete in the state tournament.
“Even though we compete individually, we all support each other in every tournament,” Rose said. “Next year we are looking to work hard and make it to state as a team.”
