RECAP: Varsity football pulls out their first win with a bang

September 6, 2016

The Warriors bounced back this past Friday with an impressive win over the Millard South Patriots. Junior Caleb Schweigart saw the improvement of the team this week after a tough loss in their first game against Creighton Prep the week before.

“You could tell that we wanted to prove ourselves to our community that we can compete and win as a team” Schweigart said.

After holding the Patriots to a three and out on the first drive, junior Dylan Plautz threw a perfect pass to Cory Myers giving Westside a 7-0 lead.

On the next drive, Plautz threw another touchdown to senior Henry Flott, who scored three touchdowns by the end of the night. Flott’s touchdown put the Warriors up 14-0 to end the half with high hopes to come out even stronger in the second half.

Plautz finished the night out with a school record of 360 passing yards, and receiver Schweigart tied the school record with 221 receiving yards. Even though Schweigart didn’t break the record, he said he plans to work even harder the rest of the season to reach his goal.

“I kind of feel disappointed knowing that I could have broke it with one more yard, but in the end it’s a great accomplishment and a new goal for me to strive for” Schweigart said.

At the end of the night the crowd and the football players sang along to the fight song in victory as they beat the Patriots 41-21. The team plays at Phelps Field this week against the Omaha South Packers at 7 p.m.
