Varsity Softball vs. Omaha North

Original Story:
This year, the JV and varsity girls softball teams are looking forward to a competitive season. With a higher number of girls trying out for the teams this year, head coach Kevin Dunn knew from the beginning that it was going to be a great year.

“We had four days of tryouts,” Dunn said. “We had a really good number of kids come out this year, close to 40. At this point right now our roster it set at about 26 players.

Unlike other years, this year there are eight seniors on the varsity team. Senior Carlee Guyett feels that the team will be able to accomplish their major goals this season.

“We are really looking forward to winning districts this year and going to state because we haven’t been to state yet in our four years and we think we are good enough to go,” Guyett said.

The teams trained hard during the summer in preparation for their upcoming season by practicing throughout each week. Coach Dunn is looking forward to seeing how his teams perform.

“We told the girls the other day after Saturday’s scrimmage that that was probably one of the best weeks of practice to start a season we’ve ever had in probably 7-8 years,” Dunn said.

Both softball teams will be competing in their first game on Thursday, August 18 against Omaha North at North’s home field. JV is at 5 p.m. and Varsity is at 6:30.
