RECAP: Students excel in state journalism contest

April 28, 2016

Apart from their time producing content for the members of the Westside community, several Westside Journalism staff members used their talent at the 2016 NSAA State Journalism contest held Monday April 25 at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. Students in their selected categories submitted work created in a timely manner with information they were given by the contest. The various categories included, but weren’t restrained to: advertising, editorial writing, newspaper feature writing, news writing and layout.

Overall, Westside Journalism’s team of contestants placed third at the contest with seven of them placing in their respective events. Taking home first place was junior Nolan Tracy in Sports Feature Writing, junior Abby Lang in Sports Photography and junior Jim Sheuneman in Graphic Illustration. Other top finishers included senior Eva Wetzel in Entertainment Writing, Abby Lang in Yearbook Layout, junior Dana Cox in Sports Photography, Melissa Loney in Yearbook Layout and Madigan Brodsky in Editorial Writing.
