Westside welcomes new scoreboards for winter sports season

November 19, 2015

As Westside changes from fall to winter sports, the school is also changing up their gym.

Westside will be receiving new scoreboards this Thursday and Friday, Nov. 19-20. The scoreboards include a small one that can fit on a table and large ones replacing the previous scoreboards in the main gym.

“I had someone within the community who had an idea to work with a company that’s new in terms of some different types of scoreboards and approached me on it,” athletic director Tom Kerkman said.

Despite the sudden idea of new scoreboards, Westside was able to work out a financial plan with the company and was made the idea of new scoreboards possible.

Not only will there be a cleaner look to the scoreboards, but they will have cool new features. The main scoreboard will now be able to do live updates during the game, statistics of the game and will be able to do pregame videos.

“Once we work [the scoreboards] out it will be kind of neat to do some things for announcements and advertising for pregame,” Kerkman said.

Once the scoreboards are in, anyone will be allowed to use them. That includes sports like basketball, wrestling, and volleyball, but also academics like physical education classes.

“It wasn’t anything that I was planning on getting” Kerkman said. “But it was a nice surprise.”
