“The Walking Dead.” (Spoilers Below) Network: AMC

The season six premiere of “The Walking Dead” had almost 20 million viewers and was nothing less than exhilarating. The premiere answers all the hanging questions left by the finale of season five by adding black and white flashbacks of what happened directly after. The inhabitants of Alexandria are presented with a new challenge when Rick stumbles upon thousands of Walkers trapped in a valley of sorts. The Walkers seem to be trying to break out, and according to Rick and his map, will be unleashed directly towards Alexandria. The hour-long episode consists of Rick trying to convince the other inhabitants of Alexandria that they have to follow his plan so they aren’t taken away from the one safe place they have. Rick devises his plan to lead the Walkers away from Alexandria, but of course, nothing ever goes as planned in the Walking Dead and multiple things go wrong.

“Blackish.” Network: ABC

“Blackish” started its second season this year with a bang. “Blackish” is known for covering controversial topics in its episodes, and so far has not disappointed. The season premiere for this year covered the widely debated issue of using the N-word. The family’s youngest child, Jack, preformed the entire Kanye West song “Gold Digger”, N-word included. Jack was then expelled from school and a debate broke out over when it is OK to use the word. The episode showed multiple different opinions on the topic and ended on a good note by parents Rainbow and Dre making a point that a 6 year old shouldn’t be expelled for saying a word that he doesn’t know the meaning behind. Overall, “Blackish” has a good message behind it and will give you a good laugh.

“American Horror Story.” Network: FX

The newest season of “American Horror Story,” titled “Hotel,” is by far the most bizarre out of all the seasons so far. The first episode starts out with two Swedish girls who check into the Hotel Cortez and are quickly scared by a man who is sewn into their bed. It then moves to an overconfident bachelor who checks in, and after taking large amounts of drugs, is sexually assaulted by a monster living in his room. The episode also follows a detective who is investigating the case of two people nailed to each other during intercourse, along with the bloody history behind Hotel Cortez and what connection it could possibly have to the murder of the two people. If being uncomfortably scared is your thing, “American Horror Story: Hotel” is the show for you.

“Quantico.” Network: ABC

Being a new show on ABC, the TV series “Quantico” has done surprisingly well. It follows a group of trainee FBI agents. While it might not be the most accurate show (the group is filled entirely of overly attractive, young, and fit individuals) the plot will keep anyone who likes a show that makes them think interested. These agents go through exercise after exercise to prepare them for what it’s like to actually be in the FBI. Towards the end of the season premiere, the setting changes to nine months in the future. Alex Parrish (the main character) wakes up in the middle of the aftermath of an explosion. The FBI jumps to conclusions and suspects it is her that did it. She then has to go back through everything she went through in FBI camp to try to piece together who the real terrorist was. The plot will keep you guessing and after only watching four episodes, I’m still hooked.

“Grey’s Anatomy.” Network: ABC

The twelfth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” premiered on September 24th of this year. Even with main character Derek Shepard gone, the show somehow has a happier feel to it. Everyone, including Meredith, just seems more content. Not as many people die in the first episode (if you’ve never watched “Grey’s Anatomy,” Seattle Grace Hospital experiences a plethora of deaths) and even the colors in the show even seem brighter. Bailey is still trying to be Chief of Surgery but loses confidence when a near perfect candidate visits the hospital. I don’t know how Grey’s Anatomy manages to keep creating new seasons when Derek and the majority of the original cast members get killed off, but I’m glad they do. Grey’s Anatomy is actually an excellent show to watch if you are interested in the medical field because it shows an accurate view on what goes on in the inside of a hospital. Even if you aren’t interested in the medical field, Grey’s Anatomy is a perfect Thursday night drama to get into and will keep you interested for seasons to come.
