New printers relieve staff of maintenance

October 8, 2015

Students and staff at Westside High School are getting a whole new ink job, but it’s not exactly a tattoo.

Over the past few days, the Westside library and media center have replaced the older printers, known by most people as the Three Amigos, with a bigger and better upgraded group of printers.

Dwayne Belongia, director of technology at Westside High School, says a service provider brought the printers to the school.

“The new contract we have with our service provider will bring in new equipment and take responsibility for the printers,” Belongia said. “The service provider will run through maintenance and repair them, as well as replacing new toners.”

Additionally, there are printers that have been added to rooms that need them, and the service provider has also replaced old printers from rooms that already have them.

It hasn’t been that easy, though. Setting up the new printers has been tedious.

“Adding the three new printers in the library was very challenging,” Belongia said. “We have been very busy this week.”

Though an exact budget fee hasn’t been given to the school, it will most likely be paid annually or every month.

“Issues regarding the printers are first tackled by our staff, but if we need additional help, the service provider will step into troubleshoot,” Belongia said.

The new printers given to the school by the service provider relieves tech support from the responsibility of printers so they can focus on other technology issues.
