Scholarship money from bricks goes to Warrior Football leaders

August 27, 2015

Nothing is set in stone, but the names of former football players and coaches can be engraved on bricks for several years to come.

The Pave Your Legacy project was implemented to get endowment money for student scholarships. The bricks recently laid at the football field’s north entrance will have the donors’ names on the bricks.

Varsity football coach Brett Froednt is the leader of the project and has recently received Westside’s last shipment of bricks.

“The purpose is to raise money for leadership scholarships to football players,” Froendt said. “My goal is to create an endowment so before I retire, the fundraised money would no longer be needed.”

Froendt is trying to raise $25,000 to the scholarships. Future bricks will be added in the years to come.

Since 2009, the project has awarded over $7,000 scholarships annually.

“Word of mouth and social media is how we get former players to hear about our bricks project,” Froendt said. “The walkway will have people see the name of former players and coaches and inspire them to buy a brick.”

Football players interested in getting a brick at the north entrance after graduation can participate in the program. The 4-year scholarships will be awarded to players who have demonstrated outstanding character and leadership. The bricks are now visible for all to see.
