Art department honors senior students with art show

May 6, 2015

With the seniors’ last days coming into sight, some teachers have begun to show the appreciation they have had for their students over the course of their high school career. Tonight, Wednesday May 6, the art department will be putting on their annual Excellence in Design Art and Fashion Show from 5:30-6:30 in the warrior walkway.

“It’s a tribute to our senior art students, and some junior and senior fashion students,” art instructor Shawn Blevins said. “They can show everything they’ve done from their freshman year to their senior year in the fine arts classes.”

According to Blevins, approximately 30 students are involved in this years show; 12 designers from fashion classes and 18 from art classes. Regardless, the show will encompass some of the state’s best artwork. In fact, several pieces in this year’s show received gold keys, the highest honor at the Scholastic Art Awards.

The show will start in the main entrance with fashion pieces and progress through the warrior walkway – which will have double-sided panels with student’s art – as well as a filled gallery.

Everyone is invited to join the Westside art department in celebrating the work of the artists over the past four years.

“It’s a nice night to put everything up,” Blevins said. “They can invite family, invite teachers, friends, and showcase what they’ve done.”
