Boys Soccer: Season Wrap Up
A late goal from Robert Weisman was not enough for the Warriors to advance, as Westside fell 3-2 to Kearney in the first round of districts. The loss concludes what has been a sub-par season, with a final record of 6-9.
“It was just a rough season from the start,” Sophomore Hunter Kruse said. “We definitely had a state winning team but we didn’t click and weren’t consistent. We had lots of talent but it didn’t always show.”
The talent was clear in games against Thomas Jefferson and Bryan where the Warriors won 10-0 and 4-1 respectively.
Unfortunately the form couldn’t be maintained in losses against Creighton Prep and Omaha South.
Westside scored the first goal in their district game and were playing confident. When the second half began Kearney came out hard and scored a quick equalizer. Two more second half goals made the deficit 3-1. Late aggressive press from the Warriors helped them pull within one goal but they couldn’t find the crucial third goal.
“It was a frustrating loss because these seniors have put so much work in this year and they don’t get to have that state experience one last time.” Said Kruse.
The loss against Kearney ends the Warriors chances of returning to the state tournament for a second straight year.
Westside will loose 10 seniors this year but have 10 returning players for next season.
