SLŌS’S TENNIS CORNER: Team heads to the state tournament
Welcome back to Slōs’s Tennis Corner! Unfortunately, this roller coaster that we boarded together six weeks ago is coming to an end. This is the final week of the boys tennis season, and for all the seniors on the team, our final week of high school tennis.
Last week, we competed in the Metro Tournament. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Dillon Ketcham was able to hold his seed and take home third place. At No. 1 doubles, seniors Tom Kutilek and Sean Padios pulled off a big upset against Papillion-La Vista in the quarterfinals, and went on to win third place. At No. 2 singles, senior Jon Bass held his seed and won fourth place. At No. 2 doubles, senior Teigen Swanson and myself (Max Slosburg) did not have our best showing, as we were the two seed and ended up getting fourth place.
The NSAA Class A Tennis State Tournament is this week on Thursday and Friday. This is for all the marbles. Many of the Warrior tennis players have a good chance of making it to the semifinals on Friday, but first we have to get through some tough matches on Thursday. We could really use some fan support to help get us through the day on Thursday.
Two years ago, Westside had a record crowd at state. There were over forty rambunctious Warriors who were able to cheer the number eight seed from Westside, Trent Gardner, all the way to the finals. Our Warrior crowd could be heard 20 courts away, and we are looking to replicate that this year. On Thursday, matches will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Koch Tennis Center on 124th and Maple. We look forward to seeing you there, and until next week, GO WESTSIDE TENNIS!
