Welcome back to Slōs’s Tennis Corner! We’ve been keeping ourselves busy over the last week with two tournaments!

The team had a strong showing at the Millard North Invite Thursday, Sept. 18. Senior Jon Bass went 2-2 on the day and came up just short of medaling at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, senior Teigen Swanson took third place. Both doubles teams had strong performances. At No. 1 doubles sophomore Dillon Ketcham and senior Sean Padios finished second, and at No. 2 doubles seniors Tom Kutilek and I (Max Slosburg) finished second as well.

Monday, Sept. 22 we competed in the Papillion-La Vista Invitational. Out of 24 teams, Westside finished ninth. It was a tough day for most of the team, as neither singles player was able to place. The No. 2 doubles team finished sixth after losing in two close matches to Lincoln East and Elkhorn South. The No. 2 doubles team has made themselves the talk of the tennis community by performing some unorthodox celebrations on the court including Tom Kutilek saying “Hitting that Nay Nay,” after a winner and myself performing an “Ace in Your Face” dance after my opponent failed to make contact with my serve. However, the highlight of the day was the performance put on by Padios and Ketcham at No. 1 doubles. This dynamic duo was able to upset Lincoln Southwest in a riveting performance to win the consolation final.

Thursday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. is Tennis Spirit Night and Senior Night for our last home match of the season. Please come to show your support! Until next time, GO WESTSIDE TENNIS!

Westside Wired will have coverage of the Spirit and Senior Night match.
