Each week, varsity tennis player senior Max Slosburg will be providing us with a first-person look at the Westside varsity tennis team. Slosburg, who is called Slōs by the tennis team, will be keeping you up to date on all of the team’s matches and season outlook. His weekly update will be located on the Showcase, Sports Showcase and in the tennis team page. For tennis team results, visit the sports page. This is Slosburg’s week three recap.

Howdy, and welcome back to Slōs’s Tennis Corner! We have had quite the week here at Westside tennis, and we’re happy that you’re a part of it.

First, we would like to thank you for helping us achieve our goal of having over six students in our student section. At one point during our match against Papillion-La Vista Monday, Sept. 15, we had eight students cheering us on! They even did the rollercoaster to help pump up the players out on the court!

In more tennis related news, we are starting to have some success with our new lineup. Last week, we defeated Lincoln Southeast, lost in some close matches to Creighton Prep, and placed second as a team in the Fremont Invite. In Fremont, Dillon Ketcham and Sean Padios placed first at No. 1 doubles, Teigen Swanson and I placed first at No. 2 doubles, Jon Bass placed fifth at No. 1 singles, and Ziyu Fan placed fourth at No. 2 singles. Our second place finish came one point short of Papillion-La Vista, but we redeemed ourselves when we defeated them 6-3 in our duel.

The tennis season is going by quickly. We only have two more weeks of regular season match play before we get into the Metro and state tournaments. Our final home match will be Thursday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. against a talented Millard North team. It should be a great match, so we hope you come out to support. Next week we are setting a goal to have 10 fans at our match! Please do your part to help make the Westside Tennis Student Section the best student section in the state! Until next time, GO WESTSIDE TENNIS!
