No. 1 Singles and Doubles Advance to Tennis State Finals

Friday, May 23 at 9 a.m., Westside’s No. 1 singles and doubles competed in the tennis state tournament semifinals.

At No. 1 singles, junior Sydney Harlow faced Millard North’s No. 1 singles player. Harlow downed her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to put herself in the Class A State Tournament Final. She will face the winner of the Lincoln East vs. Marian semifinal match.

In the No. 1 doubles semifinal, senior McKinney Harwood and sophomore Lizzie Harwood beat Marian 6-1, 6-3 to get to the Class A State Tournament Final. They will face the winner of Lincoln Southeast vs. Papillion-La Vista.

The Harwoods and Harlow both play in the finals matches at 1 p.m. at Koch Tennis Center.

The other Westside competitors, senior Liz Kutilek at No. 2 singles and junior Elizabeth Tyler and sophomore Phoebe Placzek at No. 2 doubles, were eliminated from the tournament before the semifinals. Kutilek lost in the second round to Lincoln Southeast (6-4, 5-7, 4-6). Tyler and Placzek lost in the quarterfinals to Millard West (6-3, 0-6, 4-6).
