BOYS SOCCER: Westside’s district seeding improves after Omaha South forced to forfeit seven games
Tuesday, April 29, Omaha South’s boys varsity soccer team (ranked first in the state by the Omaha World Herald) was forced to forfeit seven of its victories for using an ineligible player. Included in those seven games was the team’s victory over Westside’s boys varsity soccer team in the Metro Championship Game, which the Warriors had lost 1-0. Unfortunately for the Warriors, there will be no Metro Champion.*
Due to the seven losses, Omaha South’s record changed from 12-4 to 5-11. This moved the Packers out of the top seven for district points, meaning the team will not host its own district. It also moved Westside up in the district points standings, which means the Warriors will have an easier district. After the change, Westside will host district A-4, which includes Millard North, Omaha Burke and Omaha Northwest.
This is the second time in a week that a Nebraska school has had to forfeit wins for using an ineligible player. Last week Class B Lexington had to forfeit wins, leaving the team with an 0-16 record with one game left on its schedule.
Update: The article had originally stated that the Warriors would claim the Metro Championship. There will actually be no Metro Champion.
