Weekend in Review
Westside was a busy place this past weekend. In addition to home events, such as boys and girls varsity basketball vs. Bellevue West, Competition of Excellence and the Warrior Invite, the Warriors competed in a variety of events. See below to see how the Warriors did this weekend.
Warrior Invite: Boys and Girls Varsity Swimming
Both the girls and boys placed second this weekend at their home invite. It was a weekend of state cuts and improvements for many Westside swimmers.
“The week before we started tapering and going easy,” said girls swimming captain Savanna Couillard. “State cut-wise we did pretty well. Some people got their cuts while others got a lot closer. Overall, it went really well, but we still have more work to do.”
Basketball
Each varsity team played two games this weekend. The boys walked away with two wins, while the girls walked away with two loses. The girl’s loses, while rough gave the team a goal for the rest of the season.
“They were disappointing and embarrassing,” senior Marie Matthews said. “It was one of the worst games we played, but we are working hard in practice and we hope to win every game up until districts.”
The boys moved No. 6 to No. 5 in the rankings and were happy with their wins.
“The bench stepped up a lot when the [starters] were out,” senior Kevin Metoyer said. “In the past we kind of slowed down and Friday they extended the lead form four to 17 [points].”
The boys and girls junior varsity teams both pulled out wins against Fremont.
This weekend’s basketball scores:
Boys varsity vs. Bellevue West: 64-39 Westside
Girls varsity vs. Bellevue West: 63-53 Bellevue West
Boys varsity vs. Fremont: 53-44 Westside

Wrestling at Boone Central
The varsity boys wrestling team placed fifth at the Boone Central Invite, located two hours away in Albion, Nebraska.
Senior Dylan Sorrell said, “A lot of the kids we faced were very strong. They were the kind of kids that don’t look jacked, but they were strong.”

Ismail Hamze- 3rd place
Jacob Kent- 3rd place
Dylan Sorrell- 4th place
Maksim Richards- 4th place

Competition of Excellence
The Westside Show Choirs were not allowed to compete in their own competition, however, next week ATSC will be back in competition. They will be competiting at Lincoln Southwest in the Southwest Showdown. Look for their results in next week’s Weekend in Review.
Debate
Two debate teams traveled to Fort Worth, Texas this past weekend to compete in the Colleyville Heritage Tournamnet. The teams of Lia Hagan and Petyon Wells and Charie Payne and Renee Stewart competed well. Payne and Stwerte made it to the octafinals where they were the 16th seed.
Scholastic Art Competition
While Westside did well in may actives, the biggest win this weekend can be attributed to the art department. The art department took home 90 awards at the Scholastic Art Competition. This is a school record for the Warriors. They broke the previous record, set last year, by 20 awards. The district as a whole took home well over 120 awards. Check back in the next few weeks for an in depth look at the Art Department.
