Volleyball Falls in District Tournament
The Westside volleyball team’s season came to an end Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the district tournament in Lincoln.
The Warriors, who were the No. 2 seed in the district, lost their first and only match of the tournament against the No. 3 seed Bellevue West. Bellevue West went on to lose to Lincoln Southwest in the district tournament. Lincoln Southwest advanced to the state tournament.
In Westside’s match, the Warriors suffered a 3-1 loss. The Warriors lost the first and third sets as Bellevue West capitalized on long scoring runs. The Warriors won the second set by staying ahead throughout the set.
In the fourth and final set, the Warriors got down early but weren’t able to mount a comeback.
Junior Lauren Salerno led the team during districts by hitting .268 and coming up with four blocks, both team bests. She acknowledged her disappointment in the loss, but added that Bellevue West was a tough opponent.
“Bellevue West is a good team and sometimes things don’t always play out the way you want them to,” Salerno said. “That’s not always a good way end the season but I’m proud of what we have accomplished.”
Game notes
Junior Cara Treu led the team with 18 digs. … The entire varsity cheerleading squad made the trip down to Lincoln for the tournament. It was the first time the entire squad had been at a match this season. Volleyball player junior Miranda Thacker said she liked having the entire squad at the game.
