Softball team finishes with winning record

October 21, 2022

The Westside softball team had their first winning season in nine years and finished out the season with a 15-11 record.

Senior Addie Lienen expressed how the Warriors struggled to reach their success on the diamond.

“I think we reached our goals,” Lienen said. “We battled hard this season and had a winning record which hadn’t happened in a few years.”

With help from a strong freshman class, the Warriors softball knowledge has grown according to head coach TJ Eadus.

“Our mental IQ has to grow tremendously,” Eadus said.   “We have a core group of freshmen that helped tremendously this season and we have to get them up to speed while having the upperclassman stay sharp and quick minded.”

The team had lots of goals this season on how to improve, one of which was handling the defensive half of the game better.

“Defensively was the biggest improvement,” Eadus says. “From the middle to the end of the season we really stepped up and made some great plays and kept us in big games.”

The sky’s the limit with this softball team, and they continue breaking goals.

“I never believe we can exceed expectations,” Eadus says. “Our standards and expectations are high, it keeps us wanting to always prove something and keeps us locked in.”

The future is bright with the younger players to continue their success into the 2023 season.

“The future is in our underclassmen,” Lienen said. “I believe in them to make Westside softball even better.”

Eleven of the varsity players will return to the Warrior field next summer as they fight to keep a winning record and build the program.
