Germonprez makes USA Junior National Team
October 7, 2022
Nate Germonprez continues to grow his swimming career as he made the USA Junior National Swim Team this year.
Germonprez has made numerous achievements during his time at Westside, making it to the Olympic swim trials as well as breaking many school records. Last August Germonprez competed in the Speedo Junior National Swimming Championships in Irvine, California. Germonprez’s best performance was in the 200-meter individual medley, where he placed second. The Westside senior was one of 36 swimmers selected to the national team. Germonprez has expressed how swimming has become his life.
“Swimming has just become part of who I am at this point,” Germonprez said. “I’ve been doing it as long as I can remember and it’s helped me so much along the way. It’s helped shape me as a person and as an athlete along with helping me move forward to bigger things like college. So overall I’m quite thankful for swimming.”
Nate has made his commitment to the University of Texas earlier this year, he wants to be in the best shape of his career when he enters the Texas swimming pool.
“This season has been a good season so far with technique work and conditioning,” he said. “I plan to continue that so that once I get to Texas I’m in the best shape and swim form that I can be in.”
Many others around Nate have seen his improvement since day one head swim coach Andy Rider has been one of the many who has been by Nate’s side his whole career.
“Nate trains hard every practice, and puts everything into all of his races,” Rider said. “Nate is a student of the sport. He studies different swimmers, and watches himself on film, so that he can improve his own technique and times. He is always critiquing his swims, so that he can continue to drop time and swim at a higher level.”
Not only is Nate a strong athlete while he competes he is also a leader on the swim team who encourages others to work hard.
“It’s great to have Nate as part of the team,” Rider said. “He is a high caliber athlete, and when you have someone in the pool at that level, it becomes infectious, and others want to train as hard as him, and swim as fast as him. Him being in the pool, brings many positives to the whole team.”
Germonprez currently holds eight individual school records and three records in the relays. Germonprez hopes to set more records in the pool during his senior season.
