PREVIEW: Westside Girls to Take on State Tournament

The Westside girls basketball team will be competing in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday, March 3rd against Fremont. Head coach Steve Clark said that their biggest preparation for state is the team’s culture.

“Our biggest preparation is within our culture. Making sure that we have above the line responses to all events that will present themselves, understanding that there will be adversity and how we respond to that will determine the outcome,” Clark said

The Warriors played Fremont in the second game of the season and lost by a score of 50-43. Clark said that both teams are different at this point in the season and they aren’t going to change up much from the last game.

“Not much change with Fremont. Both teams have improved and are a bit different than the first time we played. We missed 21 free throws the first time so hopefully that changes,” Clark said.

Westside has had a good track record in state the past few years, most recently winning the title in 2018. To repeat that success, the Warriors will need to play their best basketball.

“We will need to have great fundamentals with the ball, win in transition, and play with toughness,” Clark said. “We believe that could happen so we are excited to go play.”

Second-ranked Westside will play seventh-ranked Fremont at 7:00pm at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday, March 5th. If the Warriors win, they will either play #3 ranked Lincoln East or #6 ranked Papillion-La Vista on Friday, March 5th at 8:45 p.m.
