Junior Ian Andres dives in the meet vs. Omaha North earlier this season.

Coach Katy Saalfeld is very proud of her group.

After a strong start, she is coaching an experienced group who knows what it takes to close off the season strong.

“Staying healthy and getting adequate rest so they are mentally and physically ready to compete. This time of year the season starts to wear everyone out, but they need to keep focus and stay consistent,” Saalfeld.

The boys and girls each have very good competitors. The boys have started off very strong. After not qualifying anyone for the state meet last season, the girls aren’t too far behind them.

“We already have four of our boys as state qualifiers. A couple of the girls have been very close to qualifying. For the diver, getting that close to the qualifying score is motivating and frustrating. I am proud of all the hard work our divers have done this year whether they ultimately qualify for the state meet or not. Whether they made it or not, I want them to walk away feeling confident that they worked hard and take pride in the progress they have this year,” Saalfeld said.

When it comes down to crunch time, athletes have as much motivation as ever before. For Seniors, it is their last chance to make a mark at the state meet. For underclassmen, they want to prove that they can do this for the rest of their career as well. Coach Saalfeld is ready for the home stretch.

“We will be giving continued support and encouragement of each other and we have confidence in their abilities,” Saalfeld said.
