Westside Rugby Defeats Nationally Ranked St. Thomas Aquinas

Westside rugby took a trip to Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday, April 13, where the team was set to take on nationally ranked St. Thomas Aquinas. The game took place on Aquinas’ senior night.

Westside ran away with a win scoring 29 to Saint Thomas’s 0. The Warriors scored a handful up front coming from seniors Jerry Harwood and Michael Davis. Senior Bobby Hurley said the win made a statement.

“We knew they were going to be a good team and that they’d be our toughest challenge all season,” Hurley said. “We went out there everyone played really well and we showed them why it was a mistake to schedule us on senior day.”

At the half, Westside was in control with a 12-0 lead, as they were just beginning the scoring free-for-all. Senior captain Nathan Wooster said the team was able to ride the momentum.

“We played our best game yet this season. At halftime we were so hype to get back out there and do what we do best” Nathan Wooster said. “As a team we had a great game, and it shows we can play with anybody in the nation.”

The Warriors are taking the field again against Glenwood on April 27. Westside will take on the defending state champs again after beating them earlier this season.
