“Resident Evil 7”, a survival horror masterpiece, came to stores January 2017.

During the late E3 2016 show people were not expecting another Resident Evil game to be announced, but that’s exactly what they got when Capcom showed off Resident Evil 7 to the fans. They also announced Monster Hunter World alongside Resident Evil 7 which caused people to choose which game they want to play

Horror Comes Home

January  2017 arrived and fans got their hands on a copy of the game. After so many demos, Resident Evil fans were eager to see what Capcom had in store for their series. In my opinion:  What became Resident Evil 7 was just as great as any other game in the franchise.

As the backstory of the game goes:  Ethan Winters, an husband and an accountant gets a video message from his wife Mia Winters who’s been missing for three years. Ethan forgotten about her, but this made him remember who she was. After Arriving at the house, Ethan realizes something is up. After he fights his wife he gets a rude awakening to something he didn’t sign up for. A cat and mouse game of virus and infected people trying to kill Ethan. He now has to escape the Baker Farm and figure out the mystery of the new virus.

The Gameplay

Resident Evil 7 uses a first person perspective much like the Call of Duty and Halo games. However, Resident Evil 7 does not play like a traditional shooter. The game requires you to be precise and save ammo in the traditional survival game sense. Gameplay is a semi-open level game with puzzles and keys to progress, much like the vain of the old school games. Resident Evil 7 also has multiple endings which you could get by a late game choice. The game isn’t too long, about 7 hours long which is the right amount of time for a horror game like Resident Evil. The game has three difficulty modes: Easy, Normal and Madhouse,. Easy and Normal is somewhat the same in difficulty  to each other. In Easy Mode, enemies go down faster and hit less. In Normal Mode it is ramped up a notch with how hard they hit. However, Madhouse plays much like a traditional survival horror game where limited saves and limited ammo are a factor, as well with harder enemies. In my opinion: A much preferred method of play.

Graphics

The graphics uses a photorealistic engine made in house by Capcom. Called the RE Engine. Which is a graphics engine that uses high quality graphics that make games seem more realistic and atmospheric. Motion capture also is heavily improved in the RE Engine because the engine is so powerful, it has micro pixals that monitor movement in facial features and body movement. The game has a compressed graphics when in VR which has lower quality.

Finalizing Thoughts

Resident Evil 7 is no doubt is a survival horror game at heart. In my opinion: fans needed a game like this in order to revive the series.

A- The game’s story needs polishing, and it needs some tweaks in the gameplay. Overall, Resident Evil 7 is a good  survival horror game . That I will be playing a lot more soon.
