RECAP: Westside Maintains Perfect Record with Win Over Columbus

Senior Nolan “Deuce” Miller-Johnston, recipient of the week eight “Hammer Award”, leads the Warriors onto the field prior to their matchup with Columbus.

The Westside varsity football team picked up their seventh win over of the season on Friday night when they defeated Columbus, 38-0. After putting up a total of 35 points in the first half, Westside scored three more in the second.

The scoring was kicked off by sophomore Avante Dickerson who ran for a 35 yard touchdown on Westside’s first possession of the game. Dickerson was able to score one more time before the end of the game.

Sophomore Cole Payton threw for 2 touchdowns as well. One of them was to senior Cade Jochum, and the other to junior Trevor Barajas. Senior Brett Curran also ran in a 2 yard touchdown to add to the scoring.

Westside’s defense held Columbus to 0 points and racked up multiple interceptions as well.

“We played well tonight, got done what we needed to. I’m proud of my brothers for stepping up. Our team’s gotta keep improving as we’re looking forward to a big game next week against a tough Millard South team,” senior Caden Schroeder said.

Westside will play Millard South for the district A-6 championship on Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m.
