As the Westside boys varsity soccer team has had a past reputation of being one of the top competitors in the state, this year looks to be no different. Seniors Marvin Ramirez and Peter Novoa along with the rest of the team are ready to carry the teams high reputation this spring. Before the season recently began, the boys spent time preparing in the off season.

“[In the off season] we got outside everytime we had a chance when the weather was good, [we] did conditioning, yoga,” Ramirez said.

At a typical in season practice, the team does different types of drills to prepare best for their games. At practices before and after a game day, the team has a recovery day.

“We do drills and play games to try to simulate a real game situation,” Novoa said. “We’re pretty focused, we also try to make it fun.”

With a 4-0 record, the team is confident in their abilities to do well this spring.

“We’re looking pretty good,” Ramirez said. “We just need to get better as a team with team chemistry.”

Novoa and Ramirez both said that the teams goal is to win a state championship title. The team plans to work hard all season to set themselves up to accomplish their goal.

“We’re trying to improve with each game, we’re trying to play our best soccer by the end of the year come State,” Novoa said.
