Finals Survival Guide

Finals Survival Guide

No matter how many tears come to my eyes while typing this, there’s no point in denying that finals week is among us. As junior who has gone through finals four times, here’re five of my best tips for underclassmen as they’re preparing for finals.

  1. Space out your finals

While many people schedule all their finals back to back, I’ve found it best to spread them out between the two days. Even though you want to get out of school as soon as possible having an extra hour between two tough finals can really help you relax and give you the confidence you need to do well. If you have a full schedule and don’t have the chance to space them out, try to alternate between your hard and easy finals so you won’t get so overwhelmed.

  1. Go in and talk to your teachers

Instead of sitting in the library by yourself trying to reteach yourself a semester’s worth of material, go to your teachers for help! No matter how many tests they have left to grade or essays left to read, they want to help you learn the material and they can only do that if you come in for help. Plus, going in and discussing the material will show your teacher that you care about their class and may be the deciding factor on whether or not they move your 92.9% up to an A or not.

  1. Do your review guides!

Teachers give you review guides for a reason-they want to help you! Keep in mind that the person that wrote your test is the same person that wrote your study guides. Most study guides cover most, if not all, the material that will pop up on your tests. I recommend forming a study group and working through problems together. If there are problems you just really don’t understand then as I said before, go ask your teacher for help!

  1. Shut Down Netflix

In other words, turn off all distractions that could take even an extra minute away from your precious study time. Breaks are important, but a 45-minute episode of Grey’s Anatomy is going too far. Instead, give yourself short five minute breaks every hour. During those five minutes you can go to donothingfortwominutes.com and listen to some relaxing music. Or you could look up funny finals memes or other finals survival guides such as the one here.

  1. Cry

This is a very simple tip. When it’s Wednesday night and it’s already past 1 a.m., just cry and come to the realization that finals are dumb and will barely affect your grade anyways. No matter how much stress you’re under, just remember that all your tears and sleep deprivation will soon come to a halt and break is less than 48 hours away!

Happy finals week Warriors!
